Staffordshire County Cup    Kick Off : 19:30 Stoke City Ladies won the Staffordshire FA Ladies Challenge Cup for the 9th year on the run, with a 5-0 scoreline over Sporting Khalsa Reserves at Brocton Football Club, Stafford. The ladies completed a high scoring year in the competition beating Florence 11-0, Sporting Khalsa 6-0 and Stoke Ladies Reserves 6-0 before the final. With the Potterettes having already removed Sporting Khalsa in the quarter final stage it seemed the final would be an anti climax against the Khalsa Reserves. However, the first half began with the Potters dominant in possession but Khalsa were tight in defence and were closing down their opponents at every opportunity, restricting them to long range efforts throughout the first period but unable to hit the target. With Khalsa being urged on by their supporters they were holding firm until Jamilla Parker headed the holders in front from a corner and their uphill task just became a little more difficult. To be fair to a very young side, their heads did not drop and although they were thankful to Phoebe Carter tipping a close range shot onto the bar shortly after the opening goal, there were very few clear chances for Stoke before the break and they went in just 1-0 down after 45 minutes. The second half was to start badly for Khalsa though with Millie Elson doubling the advantage just a couple of minutes after the re-start and, as the game began to open up, Stoke added a third and fourth with Kelsey Richardson on 68 minutes and Harriet Wellings on 70 minutes putting the result beyond doubt. A late fifth from Cassie Hyde was harsh on a Sporting Khalsa side who had played with spirit and determination throughout the 90 minutes and gave a great account of themselves against the best women’s team in Staffordshire - the future is certainly bright for the side from Willenhall.
