Keele Tournament   Ladies Squad  The Keele International Cup was decimated in 2012 by bad weather - not the tournament itself as the sun finally came out for the competition weekend but the previous month had seen torrential rains ruin all the grass pitches at Keele University so a number of different venues were used with all games played on artificial pitches. Stoke City Ladies again entered two teams into a shortened revised format as a number of teams pulled out of the competition due to the weather issues. Both Stoke teams were drawn to play at Chesterton, one of three venues used. The format was amended to form new groups for Sunday games rather than semi’s & finals. The first team beat Wolves & Huddersfield but lost to Yeovil in Saturday’s group games. Yeovil & Stoke went into the top group which included Liverpool Reserves where Stoke again went down to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Yeovil to end their run in the competition. The reserves had a tough day on Saturday in a group which included Liverpool Reserves so went into the Sporting Plate group on Sunday. A draw against a British deaf team and a win over Huddersfield meant that it was winner take all for the final game of the day between Stoke Reserves and Crewe. Goals from Amy Whielden and a screamer of a free kick from Holly Fowell gave Stoke Reserves a 2-1 victory and the title.
