Keele Tournament   Ladies Squad        The 2016 cup was again held in Nottingham and Stoke City Ladies entered two teams. The first team entered the senior cup whilst the reserves competed in the New Balance Trophy. For the second year running there were some strange goings on with the organisers as the first team started with EPS, a team from Finland and won 7-0 but who then asked to be dropped down to the New Balance Trophy as the standard was too high for them. The result was then removed from the standings and Stoke were also asked to not play the fixture with Bolton Wanderers. However Bolton’s results against Derby & the Army stood so Stoke finished second in the group having played fewer games than the other teams. That put Derby against Stoke straight into the final which Derby won 3-2 on penalties. The reserves also had a team not turn up in their group so also only played two games and were then put into a new plate trophy where again there were a team of no shows. The girls finished top of that group by beating a team from Canada and drawing 1-1 with EPS That meant that EPS again played the reserves in the final which Stoke won 6-0. Confused? You will be.
